Biography

Eusébio Eusébio, nicknamed "The Black Panther" was a Portuguese football player. Eusébio was born in Mozambique and was the first big player that was born in Africa. Eusébio played most of his career at Benfica where he won the European Cup with in 1965. He also became eleven times Portuguese Champion with Benfica and is the all-time top scorer of the club with 638 goals in 614 matches.

Eusébio with Benfica One of his most impressive moments was at the 1966 FIFA World Cup with Portugal. Eusébio scored two goals against Brazil, knocking out the former World Champion in the group stage of the tournament. In the quarterfinals of that tournament Portugal had to play against North Korea. After just 25 minutes it was already 3-0 for the Korean's, but then came one of the most astonishing comebacks of football, Eusébio scored four goals and Portugal won the game eventually with 5-3. In the semifinals of the tournament Portugal played against England. The one goal of Eusébio wasn't enough in the 2-1 lose and Portugal had to play for the third place against the Soviet Union. The matched started well for Portugal, by receiving a penalty after 9 minutes. Eusébio took the penalty and scored, the famous Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin was close to a save but just nearly missed the bal. Portugal won the game with 2-1 and became third, and Eusébio became top scorer of the tournament with 9 goals. Eusébio was a great striker, he was known for his speed, powerful shot and dribbles.

Johan Cruyff with Ajax
Johan Cruyff started his career at Ajax where he won the Dutch Championship six times. With his vision in the field he helped Ajax win three consecutive European Cup wins from 1971 to 1973. He earned a transfer to Barcelona where he quickly became a hero. In 1974 "El Salvador" helped Barcelona win their first La Liga since 1960, along the way defeating Real Madrid at their home with 5-0.



At the 1974 FIFA World Cup, Cruyff was part of the Dutch 'Total Football' team that introduced a new style of play and just nearly lost the final against West Germany(2-1). Despite losing the final, Cruyff had showed amazing dribbles, goals and above all his brilliant vision at the tournament and was named player of the tournament.

In 1979 at age 32, Cruyff went to the United States to play one season for the Los Angeles Aztecs followed by one at the Washington Diplomats. After having played 10 games for Levante he returned back at Ajax in 1981. Cruyff was now 34 and people were doubting if he had the same level as he had before. He took away all skepticism by winning another 2 Dutch Championships to get to a total of 8 Dutch Championships with Ajax. In his last season of his career he played for Ajax's rivals Feyenoord. He showed his class again by winning the Dutch Championship. Cruyff was a player with a great acceleration and dribbling ability but above all he had a great vision of the game.

Biography

Puskas with Real Madrid Puskás was the captain of the Hungarian national team of the 50s, also known as the "Mighty Magyars". They became Olympic champion in 1952 and were unbeaten for 32 matches before losing the 1954 FIFA World Cup final against West Germany. After winning five Hungarian Championships with Honved Budapest he left Hungary in 1956 to play for European top club Real Madrid.

At Madrid he played along with Di Stéfano, he won the European Cup thrice and became five times Spanish Champion. He scored four goals in the 1960 European Cup final in the 7-3 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Puskás was a great player with an enormous scoring ability, he became 4 times Hungarian and 4 times Spanish top scorer and scored 84 goals in 85 games for Hungary.

Beckenbauer
Franz Beckenbauer, nicknamed "Der Kaiser" was a German football player. He won the European Cup with Bayern Munich three times in a row from 1974 to 1977. As a captain he helped West Germany win the World Cup in 1974. In the final he had to mark Johan Cruyff and did this so well that Cruyff was never able to play like he had done before at that tournament. West Germany won the final with 2-1. Beckenbauer introduced a new style of play as an attacking sweeper. He would often make a rush from his own penalty area to the penalty area of the opponent by dribbling and making short combinations with his teammates. He did this so well that he scored 60 goals for Bayern Munich as a defender.

Biography

Zinedine Zidane or "Zizou" was a French football player with an incredible ball control. He won the World Cup with France in his homeland in 1998 by scoring two headers against Brazil in the final. He was the playmaker of that succesful French team, that two years later also won euro 2000. He was also successful with his club team, he won the European Cup twice Juventus (1997,1998) and once with Real Madrid in 2002 by scoring an amazing volley goal in the final.

Zidane left football with a red card at the final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup after he had been head butting Marco Materazzi who had been saying insulting words against him. Zidane was an incredible playmaker, his tactical vision made it possible to organize a team and give brilliant passes to his teammates. Zidane was very skilled, he had an incredible ball control which gave him the ability to keep the ball with him very well. He also had a great 360 move which he had perfected and use a lot throughout his career.

Biography

Ronaldo with Brazil Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima was one of the greatest strikers ever. He started his career at Cruzeiro where he scored 12 goals in 14 appearances. He was part of the Brazilian 1994 FIFA World Cup selection that won the tournament, but he didn´t play. After the World Cup Ronaldo went to Holland to play for PSV were he scored 30 goals already in his first season. In 1997 "O Fenômeno" went to Barcelona where he scored 34 goals in 37 appearances, Ronaldo did amazing things during his Barcelona period, dribbling past defenders like they weren´t there and scoring goals at any moment. With four goals already at the tournament Ronaldo was on his way to win the 1998 World Cup with Brazil when an convulsive fit hindered him to win the final. After leaving Barcelona, Ronaldo joined Inter where he would stay until 2002, scoring 49 goals.

Ronaldo Brazil 2002 World Cup win At the 2002 World Cup Ronaldo took revenge for the lost final four years earlier by scoring two goals in the final against Germany and winning the tournament. In 2002 Ronaldo joined Madrid and helped them win the 2003 Spanish Championship. He scored a total of 83 goals at Madrid in 127 appearances. At the 2006 World Cup Ronaldo scored his 15th goal at a World Cup and became record holder of scoring goals at a World Cup. Brazil lost the quarter final of France with 1-0 at that tournament.

After playing a short period with AC Milan he ended his career with Corinthians were he would win the Brazilian Cup with. On 7 June 2011 Ronaldo played one last farewell match with Brazil, he played 15 minutes and then left the field after a standing ovation. Ronaldo became three times FIFA World Player of the Year, in 1996, 1997 and 2002. He did incredible things with the ball, dribbling with enormous speed past defenders, scoring whenever he wanted. He remains one the greatest strikers ever.

Pele durign the 1958 World Cup Edison Arantes do Nascimento also known as Pelé was one of the greatest football players ever. Pelé started playing football at Bauru FC where he was trained by former international Waldemar de Brito. Soon all great clubs of Brazil were after him. He choice for de Brito´s former club Santos FC were he made his debut at age 15. Pelé made his debut at the World Cup with Brazil in 1958, at only 17 years of age. He became the youngest player ever to score a goal at the World Cup by scoring the decisive goal against Wales in the quarterfinals at 17 years and 239 days. In the semifinals he scored a hat-trick against France in a match that Brazil would win with 5-2. In the final against Sweden Pelé scored another goal in the 5-2 victory. Brazil became World Champion and Pelé was the greatest revelation of the tournament.

At Santos Pelé dominated the Brazilian League by winning the Brazilian national championship five times in a row from 1961 to 1965. He won the Copa Libertadores(South American Champions League) in 1962 and 1963 and the 1962 Intercontinental Cup by beating Eusebio's Benfica with 5-2, Pelé scoring a hat-trick.

Pele durign the 1958 World Cup In Brazil's first match of the 1962 World Cup against Mexico, Pelé assisted the first goal and scored the second goal. It looked like it was going to be Pelé's tournament again, but it wasn't. Pelé was hiding a groin injury to keep playing, but this became visible at Brazil's second match against Czechoslovakia. Pelé had just shot on the post and tried to shoot the reflected ball but injured himself. He was forced off for the rest of the tournament, despite that Brazil won the tournament due to a great Garrincha.

It was the 1966 FIFA World Cup, held in England. Pelé was back without injury and scored in his first match against Bulgaria, Brazil won but Pelé had been brutally fouled by the Bulgarian defenders and could not play the second match against Hungary. Brazil lost his second match and Pelé was forced to come back and play the decisive match against Portugal. Pelé was fouled again by the Portuguese players. However it was the foul João Maorais made on him that injured him. Pelé limped on the field for the rest of the game and Brazil lost with 3-1.

Pele with Brazil Pelé played his last World Cup in 1970 at age 29. Pelé scored one goal in Brazil´s first match against Czechoslovakia which was won with 4-1. Pelé nearly scored with a header against England but Gordon Banks saved spectacularly. Against Romania Pelé scored twice in the 3-0 victory against Romania and Brazil was is in the quarterfinals. They won the quarterfinal against Peru with 4-2, Pelé did not score. In the 3-1 victory against Uruguay in the semifinals Pelé was involved with the last 2 goals. Brazil dominated the final against Italy, Pelé opened the score with a header 1-0. The match was won with 4-1, the final goal being one of the most famous goals, showing Brazil's class at that World Cup. Pelé became the only player ever who won the World Cup thrice.

Pele durign the 1958 World Cup Pelé ended his career in the US at the New York Cosmos as a "ambassador for football". He remains one of the greatest players ever. He was great in all aspects of the game, he was great in heading, dribbling but above all shooting the ball with both legs. This is why he scored more than 1200 goals.
